OCR: GLOSSARY BUOYANCY When an object is submerged in water or surrounded by air, gravity tries to pull the displaced fluid back into place. This produces a force (or upthrust) on the object, giving it buoyancy. If the buoyancy is greater than the weight of the object, it floats upward.
